What a great weekend. It did rain a little Sunday night and the entire area south of Springfield lost power for about 2 hours Saturday. But these items did not slow down the campers. Pool was full all weekend, 90 degree weather tends to cause that. Pig roast/pot luck dinner Saturday was a great success, attend by over 300 people. I never knew there were so many different ways to make baked beans. I have to give a special thanks to the seasonal camper who had the idea for the roast and organized it and did the cooking with a little help. He has started an annual event at the Double J. Hope to see everyone there next year.

It was a wet weekend and a little slow at the campground. I think everyone is saving up their camping energy for the 4th. It gave us a chance to get caught up on maintenance projects and other items around the park. Looking forward to a full campground next weekend. (if you do not have your Double J reservation, I am sorry, you will miss a lot of fun and the pig roast.

It was a great Father’s Day weekend, highlighted by the fire Saturday night and the Father’s Day breakfast Sunday morning. Although it was raining Sunday morning we still had 35 people attend the breakfast, and as it ended about 10:30 the sun came out and it turned into a great day. Many Dads and families did not leave until 4:00 Sunday afternoon. The families were just having too much fun playing in the pool.

It was hard to have a better weekend after memorial day but we did it. Pool was busy with three days over 90. (A special thanks to the firefighters/divers from Lincoln who helped with a minor pool repair/ See pictures under May camping.) Between the movie, activities, fire, mini golf and all the other activities everyone had fun. I also want to say thanks to Wally and Wanda, this weekend was their 4th weekend this year at the Double J. They are becoming a regular at D8. Its turning into a great summer. Come by and say hi.

What a Memorial Day weekend. A great Friday night, the weather cooperated and the campers almost filled up the 125 sites in the park. Saturday the weather was a little wet but no storms and so we still had fun and the evening campfire was dry. Sunday was the first of two great days. We cancelled the noon check out, so a lot of campers staying until 4 or 5 Monday to enjoy the pool and 90 degree day.

It was forcasted to rain all weekend. Instead we had our first weekend with no rain. It was great, we had a Rally with 36 Class B Campers, had a Cub Scout Pack in the new group camping area and had almost every other site in the park full Friday and Saturday night. Had over 50 people swimming Saturday, including sun bathers. Campers include my brothers, sisters, sister in-law and friends. (They all worked hard to make the Double J a better campground)

We had a great Mother Day weekend including the Mother Day Breakfast, Dads and children prepared breakfast for mom. It was a lot of fun on a nice weekend. The park is really starting to look great. The April rain has ended, everything is green, and the grass is getting cut twice a week.

The last weekend in April brought good weather again, despite the forecast. The campground still has the deer, several families of rabbits including some babies and a few other running around. The new basket ball hoop was installed at one end of the court and several kids and a few adults put the court to good use over the weekend. We have been busy everyday painting and cleaning up the park and I think the upgrade to the WiFi system is complete. As always I will be available to help campers with questions connect to the system. We start to prepare the pool for swimming next week.
As the sign at the entrance says, “April Showers May Camping.” I hope to see all of you soon

It has been an exciting week approaching Easter. We completed a lot of work in the campground including the repairs and upgrade to the back shower house. The cement pads for what will be the new pavilion and basketball court were poured and we finished the installation of the new rail fencing. A special thanks to all the people that helped me with these projects. On Friday night we had a fish fry with fish sticks, fresh fish Donny caught and fresh cut chips(french fries), then we watched the movie RV. Saturday night the Easter Bunny was taking a nap prior to his long night so he sent the Easter Chicken with candy for everyone. Pictures are on the activities page. We are all thankful the rain held off Friday night, Saturday and Sunday morning. If you did not come camping because of the weather you made the wrong call. It was a great weekend.

We are getting ready for the Easter weekend, The park is looking great, everything is getting green, the deer still visit 2-3 times a week. If everyhtng goes as planned we will have the cement down for the basket ball cout Thursday. The first two weeks have been great. I have talked with so many wonderful campers adn the staff is adjusting to me, the new owner, well. They love the new computerized reservation system, which eliminates a lot of paper and everyone is excited about the recycling station we are putting in. Thanks
